FLS-C – for fast measuring and unique accuracy
The FLS-C distance measuring device measures absolute distances up to 500 m without contact and with an accuracy of 1.0 mm. It represents a cost-effective solution even at extreme ambient temperatures as low as -40° C using the optional heater.
The FLS-C has been designed to be suitable for both heavy industrial and outdoor applications. It is constructed of a solid metal case and provides class IP65 environmental protection. Furthermore, various features make it flexible for multiple applications in numerous industries such as automotive, paper, metal and textile.

Monitoring of pressure tunnelAn automatic monitoring system was used in a headwater pressure tunnel to measure the passive bias of penstocks during injections. As soon as the limit values were exceeded, an alarm lamp illuminated, so that the injections could be stopped.
Monitoring transfer car positionIn a steel production facility, large transfer cars transported glowing steel plates. Due to a malfunction of the micro-switches, the cars collided at the end of a transfer line. With the help of two Dimetix lasers integrated in protective housings, a smooth production could be restored.

Rock surveillance tsunami warningIn Norway an early warning system was developed using 3 Dimetix sensors. These measure daily the movements of rocks above a bay. Thus, a warning can be triggered in the event of a landslide.

Truck position measurementIn times of increasing traffic and ever more demanding tasks where time is of the essence, a system was developed to speed up customs checks on HGV vehicles. This device helps to significantly reduce time consuming check ups on vehicles since the positioning of the trucks is done with sensors. Customs uses mobile X-Ray scanners to check the content of trucks and containers. During the scanning process the movement of the scanner must be determined precisely.

AN2002 SSI interface usage
The FLS-C(H) provides a Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI). SSI is a widely used serial interface standard for industrial applications between a master (e.g. controller) and a slave (e.g. FLS-C). On an SSI communication channel, the master generates a clock, while the slave sends the data corresponding to the received clock signal. Only point to point communication is possible with the SSI interface. The RS-422 standard defines the electrical signal levels of the SSI interface.
